EDITORIAL COMMENT

Winwick is a strange beast, you can question its very right to exist without apparently adding to the wrinkles on its brow.

On the other hand - before you tickle its ribs, make sure you know of a safe hole to go to.

Holidays happen even to the Publications Committee of The Standard. For the next fortnight 'on duty' are:-

W/C 13.8.73 Messrs. Jolley, Naylor, and Tabener

W/C 20.8.73 Messrs. McKendrick, Naylor, and Tabener

REGIONAL NEWS AND INFORMATION

The L.R.H.B. has approved plans for a £1,220,000 programme to further improve geriatric services on Merseyside. The largest project will be at Clatterbridge, where an extra allocation to that already planned will enable a new Geriatric Unit to be established. Work on this scheme will start next May and finish in 1976.

Other major works include a £114,000 upgrading of wards at Warrington General.

Approval has also been given for the provision of a £22,000 swimming pool for the patient at Greaves Hall. £42,000 has been allocated to Winwick for the provision of Group Headquarters and residential accommodation.

CRICKET NEWS

Several games have already been played in the F. Banner Trophy series -

1Warrington Catering v Newchurch, which was won by Newchurch.
Warrington Finance v Nevchurch, another good win for Newchurch, who now go through to the Final which is to be held at Winwick.
2Winwick Medical v Winwick Catering, where the Medics cantered home.
Winwick Farms v Winwick Catering. Catering gained an unexpected but well-deserved win.

Weather permitting the match this Wednesday, between Winwick Medical and Winwick Farms and Gardens, should have provided Newchurch's opponents in the Final.

J. A. Jolley,
Cricket Representative.
